If you’ve been hoarding magazines, there are plenty of art teachers out there who would would love to have them for class. Once you’ve edited it down, have some fun rearranging the books you’ll keep and your favorite object in a

For many of our favorite designers, great style started at home. In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked everyone from Bobby Berk of Queer Eye to designer and author Justina Blakeney about the design lessons they learned from their moms (or grandmothers and other mother figures).

What are the tips they picked up from the most important women in their lives? They learned how to stay organized, mix high-end and vintage pieces, incorporate art into a space, and more. Some of them, like Nate Berkus, were lucky enough to have moms who were interior designers themselves. Read on for the best lessons that continue to guide these designers today.

Modern Architectural Style Considerations | Milgard Windows & Doors

Clean lines, smooth surfaces and lots of light encompass the look of a modern home. Ornamentation is kept at a minimum to focus on a large perceived space and welcome indoor-outdoor living. These one-of-a-kind homes are usually asymmetrical with flat or uniquely slanted roofs.

Recommended Window and Patio Door Styles for Modern

While modern homes are varied in how they are designed, sliding horizontal windows can almost always be a great choice. Another popular operating style is awning, often times placed below large picture windows as it brings in subtle fresh air. Many modern homes push beyond the norm when it comes to the shape and positioning of the windows. This could look like uniquely cut gables, windows wrapping around the corner of a home, or having glass from floor to ceiling. The possibilities are endless!

Aluminum is a popular window material to use because modern homes almost always have

Western Style House Exterior Designs

3

Building a new home can be a difficult task, especially without the right design. After all, not every design is meant for everyone. Some designs could be too old, out of style, or just not feel right.

But one of these western-style designs could be for you. Check them out.

One look at this modern home is enough to have jaws drop. There is not a single curve on it. Everything from its roof to windows and edges are sharp like that of a square. This makes the house look all the more modern and a design from the west. It has 2 storeys and the flat roof gives it a more elongated look. If you want your home to be like this then just grab it before anyone else would!

This is another house inspired by the West. Again, it has no curvy edges or a high roof.

Decorating Styles- Discover Your Decorating Style

Do you have any idea about what decorating style you like?

Of all the things that we learn while going through so many years of school, what decorating style we’d like to see in our living room or what era of furniture would best complement the layout of our bedrooms usually isn’t one of them. Whether you’ve been to school for design or not, decorating is always a personal process. That doesn’t change whether you’re doing it for yourself, working with a designer, or designing for someone else. When it’s your home, everything hinges on what you like and in the end, only you can say whether the result is something that you’ll be happy living with. It’s always easy to tell whether or not you like something but sometimes it can be very difficult to say for sure what you like or why.

That’s one of the reasons why

Time and time again, Aussie homeowners and renters craft living room lounge areas that feel inviting, comfy, and most of all — casual. Unpretentious, these living rooms mix design styles, eras, patterns and their own je ne sais quoi. They’re stunning rooms, but most of all, they feel accessible — both to design and to enjoy.

Eclectic Interior Design: 7 Ways to Ace Eclectic Style

Eclectic living room

Ever feel like your interior design preferences include a mash-up of styles? Maybe you like the clean lines of mid-century modern, but you also like the natural materials of rustic style. Or you love the causal nature of boho style but still like to keep things minimal. Perhaps you love over-the-top glam but also more reserved traditional elements. Don’t worry: these seemingly at-odds styles don’t make you crazy. They just mean there’s an eclectic nature to your preferred interior design style.

What is Eclectic Interior Design?

But wait. Let’s back up a minute. What exactly is an eclectic style? Eclectic interior design is a style that artfully mixes elements of multiple design styles into one space. It involves an informal mix of furnishings and decor and pulls from a wide variety of styles. Often, eclectic decor combines bright colors and patterns and mixes in unexpected elements.

What are the Key
