Before selling their Cambridge home, Rachel Dunham’s clients did some serious purging. Little did they realize that their next home, a new Colonial in Newton Lower Falls, would boast an entire wall of built-ins. “They read Marie Kondo’s book and got rid of everything,” says the Arlington-based designer. While they didn’t want to re-clutter, leaving it bare wasn’t an option. To round out the family-friendly decor, Dunham curated a mix of items from big-box stores and boutiques. She hit up a Facebook community page called Everything Is Free to find books to use for massing. “A lady who was cleaning out her mother-in-law’s place filled up my trunk with them,” Dunham says. “I just took off jackets and created arrangements by color.”

The concept of luxury in living room design is something that varies from one person to another. Luxury isn’t synonymous with expensive objects. And luxury in the living room is something if done right can make or break its look. The living room is a place open to beautifying, more than a kitchen or bedroom. Moreover, your living room should embody your personality and personal preferences. A living room brimming with luxury can be achieved without spending a fortune. See how!
Bring in Wall Decor
Hanging wall decor all over your living room can bring in an instant luxury look and feel to your living room. If you are on a budget, then you can go for it. If your living room design lacks a focal point, and if you have an inclination to artworks, then you can use it as a focal point. And the good thing is that
When I’m thinking about laundry room design I use the same type of thinking as I do for kitchen design. Like the kitchen, the laundry is a highly functioning space (I guess that’s why it’s often called a utility room in England). Of course we want it to look good (even beautiful) but if you can’t do the activities that make up ‘doing the laundry’ smoothly and easily, the room will be a misery (a futility room – that’s what my brother in law used to call it as a toddler!).
Seeing as the laundry is also a space that exists to get a job done it surprises me that laundry room design doesn’t receive more attention. There’s so much written about how kitchens function, the kitchen triangle and all that. Mmm – the laundry triangle. I’ll have to come back to that one
Excuse the brevity of this post but I really want to share the design plan for our new family room because it features The Everygirl’s furniture collection with Interior Define and those pieces are currently 15% off – ending today!
Here it is! The design plan for our new family room. We’re going to live right by family and friends and this room opens up to the kitchen. It will be where we spend the most time and entertain, so the goal is to maximize seating and coziness for frequent hangouts.
I’d really love a full corner sectional as opposed to a chaise sectional simply to have more seating, but we’re not sure yet if it will fit so we are waiting to get in and measure. But I plan on doing a sectional version of the Caitlin sofa in Oatmeal Heathered Weave fabric which actually looks a bit lighter
